What is the Endocannabinoid System?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) can be found in almost every part of our bodies, especially in the nervous and immune systems . A healthy endocannabinoid systems enables homeostasis, which is the process your body undergoes to keep your internal environment optimal and stable regardless of the conditions from your external environment. In order to maintain this balance, the endocannabinoid system regulates emotional and physical process like mood and appetite. It does this with substances called endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters. The neurotransmitters are "chemical commands" that one cell releases to tell another cell what to do, creating a specific biological response. The net effect of these commands is called endocannabinoid tone. Tonic systems in the body have a resting activity, so cannabinoid receptors are constantly activated by a low level of anadamide production. Because the system has a resting activity of greater than 0, that means that its activity can be turned down! This is how the endocannabinoid system is able to control regulation; if it wasn't able to decrease its activity from the baseline, then it wouldn't be able to promote balance when a process needs to be reduced slightly.
Expression of the enndocannabinoid system (ECS) throughout the human body.
Simply put, the ECS is a singling system that allows our cells and organs to communicated with each other in order to balance balance overall activity and energy consumption. This results in what we call homeostasis: a healthy state of balance within our bodies.
Hemp Vs. Marijuana Derived CBD
CBD oil can be derived from both marijuana and hemp. CBD derived from hemp is legal on the federl level so long as the THC level is below 0.3%. CBD derived from marijuana is illegal on the federal level. Both plants are cultivated for different reasons, for example hemp is low in THC and high in CBD and can also be used in textiles, food, biofuels, clothes and much more. While marijuana is high in THC and low in CBD content.
What should I look for in a CBD brand?
The first main thing you should look at when buying into a CBD brand is whether they are reputable and transparent with the products they manufacture, Green Roads CBD has been named the top privately held CBD company in the United States. The next checklist item to check off is to determine if the company uses proprietary product formulas and clean extraction processes. The last major item you need to look for in a CBD brand is if they utilize multi-stage third-party testing to make sure that their products are of high quality, safe and have the potency that is advertised. Many CBD brands out there don't take the extra step of third party testing and only test in house leading to false test reports and leaving the customers with half grade CBD products. Green Roads CBD products take the extra steps to ensure that the products their consumers use are only of the highest quality.
Is CBD (Cannabidiol) Legal*?
The growing popularity of CBD has many people asking if CBD is legal. To clear this confusion up we are going to look at the different derivatives of CBD and their legality at both state and federal levels. CBD that is extracted from industrial hemp is legal at a federal level thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill which was passed in December 2018. This allows for the cultivation and transportation of cannabis-related products as long as the hemp being grown contains 0.3% or less of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the compound that creates the "high" associated with marijuana. (Hemp is a type of cannabis plant low THC content and naturally high levels of CBD.) Although hemp derived CBD is federally legal it comes down to the individual states to determine it legality. There are three states that having cannabis-derived products, including CBD are illegal and they include Idaho, Nebraska and South Dakota. CBD that is extracted from other cannabis plants is still illegal on a federal level, however may depending on which state you are located in may be decriminalized under state law.
To sum it up, hemp derived CBD is legal on a federal level, although individual states can overrule the federal regulation and make transportation and consumption illegal within their individual borders.
Difference between CBD & THC
CBD and THC interact with our bodies natural Endocannabinoid System. Endocannabinoid receptors occur naturally in our body and assist with many aspects such as appetite, mood, pain, memory, inflammation and much more. THC creates a euphoric "high"when ingested and found mainly in marijuana. It works by binding to our natural endocannabinoid receptors thus creating a "high". CBD on the other hand is known to regulate our cannabinoid receptors by actually blocking what is able to interact with these receptors. CBD prevents the action of THC in the CB1 receptor which results in CBD negating the psychoactive effects of THC. The biggest difference between these two compounds are that CBD dos not contain intoxicating properties.
Does CBD (Cannabidiol) contain THC?
Hemp derived CBD does contain a minimal amount of 0.3% THC or less, thus will not get you "high" like traditional marijuana products. Our main CBD product line that we carry, Green Roads reduces the THC content in their products all the way down to Non-Detectable (ND) levels so they can reassure their customers that the products are non-intoxicating.
Does CBD get me high?
The answer to this is NO, hemp-derived CBD contains 0.3% or less THC which is considered too low to have "high" effect like traditional marijuana would. Which is why it is legal on the federal level. You will not feel any "high" from consuming CBD.
Can I overdose on CBD?
You can not overdose because cannabinoids have no known toxicity. Simply start your dosage in low amounts and then gradually increase your dosage overtime.
Do I need a prescription or medical card?
